The plan offers a lifetime maximum of $500,000 for the principal insured, and $50,000 for a dependent. Deductibles are low and are half the usual deductible if treatment is received in the college health center. Within the PPO network, no co-insurance is necessary, and outside the network, the insured must pay 20% of the first $5,000, and nothing thereafter.
Medical care, intensive care, emergency room visits, prescription drugs, and sudden dental pain are all covered. Routine dental exams are not covered. Maternity is covered after 10 months of continuous coverage, and pre-existing conditions, after 12 months. Coverage is also extended to emergency evacuation ($500,000 lifetime maximum), accidental death and dismemberment ($25,000 for student), and repatriation of remains ($50,000 maximum).
The plan can be paid for monthly, or for the duration of the plan. If the plan is purchased for three months, it can be renewed for up to five years, if coverage is continuous. The plan is not general health insurance, but provides many options for affordable coverage.
