Most international students studying in the USA know the importance of staying covered with an international student medical insurance. But not everyone acknowledges the urgency factor. Health insurance coverage has to be bought, and bought now.

To understand what the hurry is, one needs to know a little about a clause in every policy that pertains to pre-existing conditions. Let us say, you have decided to buy that policy and for some reason postpone buying it for a week. Considering how uncertain health can be, if you are diagnosed for, say, appendicitis even a day before you actually buy the policy, the treatment will not be covered.

On the face of it, appendicitis might look like a minor ailment, and it probably is; but it would still cost upwards of $20,000 straight out of your pocket. It being a minor operation, the physical pain and discomfort will subside in less than a fortnight. But, the financial ramifications could well be disastrous.

Point is: you know you have to buy an international student insurance policy. A week later is still going to cost you the same. Why take an unnecessary risk? Start your coverage as soon as possible.
It is a known fact that younger people are healthier and rarely, if ever, need to visit a hospital. Young international students who come to study in the USA are no different. Unless suffering from a hereditary ailment or a congenital health problem, an undergraduate or graduate student might not even remember when it was that he/she last visited a health center. Yet, international student medical insurance is necessary. Allow me to explain.

Your university might have made it mandatory to buy some minimum coverage. Doesn't mean that you should buy because you "have" to. Just goes to show the university has thought about the risk, and made sure that no one takes a chance.

If it isn't mandatory and you have a choice, do some research and find out for yourself. What is the consultation fee an average doctor charges? What is the minimum expense for commonly needed prescription drugs? What is the per day charge at a hospital room should you need to be hospitalized for whatever reasons. What about if you need an ICU?

Medical expenses in the USA are so high that you will understand why going without an international student insurance is just not worth the risk.
The holiday season is on. You would be wondering about all the possible gifts for people close to you. Thinking of what to buy for yourself? How about some peace of mind? Gift yourself an international student medical insurance.

Something that takes care of your financial needs should you fall ill. Something that makes sure that your career and financial stability is not threatened by an accident or an illness that needs hospitalization. Something that lets you concentrate on your studies, and makes sure that you need not worry about how those small prescription drug charges or much bigger intensive care unit bills are taken care of.

With so much traveling, partying or excursions that surely happen around this season, there is every chance that some form of ailment might be lurking round the corner. Doesn't make sense to say that it won't happen to me.

Why take a chance when the solution is so simple? Get a good international student insurance. Insure your health, get peace of mind and have fun this season in all its festivities. After all the holidays are meant to be enjoyed, aren't they?
