In the case of the Delta incident, a plane originally bound for Georgia from France was diverted to Maine. If you were a passenger on that flight, you'd suddenly need to make a whole new set of travel arrangements including hotel and airfare. You may or may not be able to get the airline and hotel to work with you on waiving some of the fees associated with booking a new itinerary. And if you can't, then you'll be faced with at least twice the expense you originally projected.
Another problem that could arise in this scenario is that your luggage could get lost as it switches from plane to plane. In the confusion of having a flight diverted, it is not uncommon for baggage routing mistakes to occur. Replacing the items in your luggage can be very expensive.
Student travel insurance will help cover the cost or purchasing replacement items from lost luggage as well as new airline tickets and hotel accommodations. So with just a small insurance investment, you can avoid expensive, unnecessary costs that arise from one unforeseen travel problem. You never know when or how your plans may change these days - protect yourself with international student travel insurance.
