  • How will health care reforms affect international students?

Many industry observers are keenly observing various aspects of the health care reform bill to understand the influence it will have on various demographics - the rich, the poor, the employed, the unemployed, the ones with and without coverage, and everyone else in any other group. Let us focus on international students, and see what effects they might face.

When the discussions and debates for the bill were in progress, people had expected the students would face no or very little major price-rise. That no longer seems to be the prevailing opinion among experts today. Rather, an increase is definitely on the cards. People are biding their time to answer any questions more specific than a cursory yes or no.

All trends point towards international student medical insurance set to becoming costlier. That is the gist of the story. By how much, and how soon is something that we all need to wait and watch. Any updates in this area, we’ll surely blog about it.

The take-away from this is that students should buy international medical insurance as soon as possible, at the current price. Should the prices increase by a big amount, you will stay protected without having to spend a fortune. Commenting is not available in this channel entry.
