  • Insure Your Safety During Exchange Program

If you’re considering an exchange program to study in the United States with appropriate exchange student insurance, know that it is a wonderful idea. Exchange programs are a great way to get to know a country better, and absorb the different culture, cuisine, and way of life. You will come back with wonderful experiences that broaden your horizons.

Purchasing exchange student insurance is a breeze with several online sites offering health insurance plans at attractive rates. However, be aware that unlike regular international student health insurance, exchange student health insurance is governed by certain minimum requirements that the U.S. Department of State has stipulated. Check and verify that your insurance satisfies the requirements adequately.

Appropriate insurance will go a long way in securing your finances and health in the United States. However, it is not the only factor to consider. Exchange student programs are among the least regulated in the U.S., and recent reports of abuse of exchange students have left the country in shock.

If you think you are in an abusive situation, let your school/college’s exchange program know immediately. Other resources that may be helpful include the Committee for the Safety of Foreign Exchange Students. They are a watchdog organization that helps oversee the safety of exchange students. You’ll probably be placed with a great host, but it’s always good to be safe than sorry!
