  • Parents Hosting Students Should Consider Exchange Student Insurance

Hosting an exchange student is a great way to have a positive impact on a young person's life. You can teach them all about local customs, help them as they assimilate into a new school, and provide an overall positive image of your country for them to take back to their homeland. If you're considering hosting a student, you may also want to consider purchasing exchange student insurance.

Although a student may be covered under their parents' insurance plan in their home country, that coverage likely will not extend to events occurring in the U.S. As such, the student will be considered uninsured in the U.S., so even a simple doctor's visit could lead to hundreds of dollars in fees.

And getting money transferred internationally could be more complicated than you'd imagine, so having the student's parents cover the cost of a medical emergency may not be easy. So the immediate burden for paying for treatment may fall on your shoulders.

Therefore, investing in exchange student insurance on behalf of the student you're hosting, or encouraging their family to do so, is an act that cans ave you hundreds or perhaps even thousands of dollars in expenses. You can research different plans and even make your purchase online. Commenting is not available in this channel entry.
